The Las Ventas bullring, closed to the public since October 2019, will reopen its doors on May 2 for the celebration of a charity festival organized by the Community of Madrid, owner of the bullring. The celebration of this celebration is possible due to the modification that the Ministry of Health of the CAM has made to the law of June 19, 2020, according to which as of today a capacity of 40% is allowed, with a maximum of 6,000 people, for “any show related to bullfighting”, always having pre-assigned seats, remaining seated at all times and guaranteeing the use of a mask ”.
Thus, for this celebration, which will coincide with the closing of the campaign of the regional elections on May 4, the capacity of the monumental will be reduced to 6,000 of its 23,000 localities. The festival poster is made up of the rejoneador Diego Ventura, the matadors Enrique Ponce, El Juli, Miguel Ángel Perera, José María Manzanares and Paco Ureña, and the bullfighter Guillero Rodríguez, a student of the José Cubero Yiyo Bullfighting School.
According to the Ministry of the Presidency, the benefits of this celebration will be used “to alleviate the economic situation of the groups in the bullfighting sector most affected by the pandemic.” All participants will act selflessly, as well as the cattle ranches of El Capea, Juan Pedro Domecq, Garcigrande, Victoriano del Rio, Fuente Ymbro, Jandilla and El Parralejo.
A Row O will also be set up to channel other economic contributions from those who cannot be in the running of a celebration in whose organization the Fundación del Toro de Lidia and the Plaza 1 company, concessionaire of the Plaza de Las Ventas, collaborate, which has not announced No celebrations since the 2019 season ended.
The new rule also indicates that “among the groups of people who acquire tickets jointly (a maximum of six) there must be at least one empty location, both in the front row and in the back row and on both sides of the group.”
In addition, it is specified that “the events must have a specific action plan with the hygiene and prevention measures that are considered necessary to guarantee the celebration of the activity”, while “the movement of people through the venue must be organized so that the interpersonal safety distance is respected ”. In this sense, the opening of doors will be carried out “in advance enough to allow staggered access, as well as the exit of the public will be done by zones and in an orderly manner.”
Other measures to be applied are the creation of specific areas for the consumption of beverages and food, the itinerant sale of which will not be allowed, nor will it be allowed to smoke “in outdoor spaces when a safety distance of at least two meters cannot be guaranteed with other people ”, while the pads“ can only be used if they are disinfected before and after each use ”.
“In any case – warns the law – the promoters and organizers, public or private of these shows must request the General Directorate of Public Health of the CAM the risk assessment of each event.”
