Argentines Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat, winners of the Goya in 2017 for Best Ibero-American Film for The illustrious citizen, return from the hand of The Mediapro Studio with Official competition, a satirical look at the world of cinema. The duo of Cohn and Duprat directs on this occasion Antonio Banderas, Penélope Cruz and the Argentine Oscar Martínez, who was recognized at the Venice Film Festival for his leading role in The Illustrious Citizen.
In fiction, a billionaire decides to produce a momentous film that manages to raise his social prestige. For this task he recruits a famous filmmaker (Cruz), a famous Hollywood star (Banderas) and a radical theatrical actor (Martínez). The egos of the three will collide from the first moment and will put the entire production at risk.
This film marks the reunion of Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz to the big screen from Pain and glory (2019), by Pedro Almodóvar. Banderas played a film director on that occasion and Cruz played his mother during the filmmaker’s childhood moments.
